What is the Peer Workforce Development Initiative? (PWDI)

PWDI is funded through the VT Department of Mental Health to offer training, host statewide IPS co-reflection, and build dedicated committees that promote the value and the professional status of the peer support workforce. PWDI is the go-to resource for Vermont peer support workers to learn, get involved, and receive mentorship and guidance on peer support topics.

In operation since 2020, PWDI has successfully trained hundreds of Vermonters in peer support trainings, including Intentional Peer Support, Conversations About Suicide, Mad Movement Histories, and Relationship-First Approach to Extreme States.  Most of PWDI’s trainings are free, funded by DMH, to create accessibility and support the growth, sustainability, and building of workforce infrastructure.

PWDI has a statewide focus,  reaching peer supporters working in a wide range of service settings, including Designated Agencies, Mobile Crisis Response Teams, Peer-Run Respites, and Peer-Run Peer Support Organizations.

PWDI works in partnership with the Vermont Peer Certification Center, as we offer the prerequisite Intentional Peer Support Core Training, which is needed for those pursuing becoming a Certified Peer Support Provider

PWDI is geared toward energizing our workforce by creating networking opportunities and supporting leadership development. We frequently provide ongoing support and consultation to organizations and individuals through co-reflections, committees, individual requests, and community events.
